Simplifying the way people pay their share of a bill between outings with family, friends and colleagues.

Discovery

Within my family, groups of friends and large network of colleagues and acquaintances, the topic of paying your share of the bill when out for group lunches, dinners or coffee catchups has come up frequently in conversation. People say it requires constant thought of making sure they have cash on hand or are aware of the nearest ATM to ensure they can pay for their portion of the bill. With more and more restaurants and cafes bringing in a ‘no split bill’ policy, it is becoming more challenging for larger groups to split the bill.

When a restaurant or cafes does allow split bills, there are challenges faced here as well. People tend to vary the payment method they use when paying their portion of the bill, this can become time consuming as each person fiddles with their debit/credit cards or gets cash out of their wallet and waits for their change. This can lead to frustration from the group, other patrons waiting to pay for their bill and the staff taking payment.

I decided to make a positive change by building a mobile app called “Splitez” to make paying for social lunches and dinners quick and easy, with no complications in splitting and paying for the bill.

How can I simplify the payment process of splitting a bill for group meals, with no fuss on having to give change, owe someone money, pop down to the nearest ATM, or pass around bank account details for fund transfers?
